Open Space Design Standards: Plan for an enduring public landscape of twenty-two interconnected parks and gardens

Town Center is to be a community of about 1000 houses and 200,000 square feet of commercial space built on 400 acres immediately adjacent to the village of Robbinsville, New Jersey in Mercer County. Construction began in 1999, and although many of the planned buildings are completed, a town is never “finished”. A town’s public spaces especially: parks, streets, boulevards and gardens continue to change and evolve as succeeding generations inherit stewardship of the plans passed on to them. This document has both a long-term and a near-term purpose:

  • It is a guide for the present day, near-term planning and construction of Town Center’s public spaces

  • It will be a record of the underlying design concepts and assumptions that should guide future Township efforts to care for these places as they weather and mature..
